"There is stardom, and then there is MS Dhoni," read a tweet shortly after the video of Dhoni signing autographs went viral on social media. Even South Africa legend Graeme Smith told the Hindustan Times a few days earlier that he was surprised by MS Dhoni's fanaticism.
No matter where you go or where you play, a sea of yellow is always present to applaud for that one man alone. But what stood out in that video was a legend of the sport, Sunil Gavaskar, asking another legend of the sport, Dhoni, for an autograph. It was heartwarming for supporters at the Chepauk and those watching on television.
It occurred immediately after the post-match presentation, when CSK players were doing a lap of honour to thank the supporters and Dhoni was handing out gifts. At Chepauk, the spectators cheered and roared noisily for the team and its captain.
During the lap, Gavaskar, who was speaking with Star Sports alongside former cricketer Kevin Pietersen, abruptly left the interview and raced to catch up with Dhoni. He stopped the CSK captain and delivered him the pen; the CSK captain then signed an autograph on his shirt, and they later shared an embrace. Gavaskar returned to the interview and disclosed that he had already borrowed a pen when he learned that Dhoni would be participating in the lap of honour.
