Sunday, a few hours before the start of the second match, a BCCI update disclosed that Bumrah did not travel to Indore with the Indian team. The statement shared on X read, "He has returned home to visit his family after receiving a brief break from team management."
The fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who will shortly depart for the Asian Games in China, has replaced Bumrah on the Indian squad in Indore. BCCI has confirmed that the star bowler will return for the third and final ODI against Australia, which will take place in Rajkot on September 27.
After a lengthy absence due to a back injury, Bumrah returned in late August. Since September of last year, he has been out of action, missing the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the T20 World Cup in Australia, the entire 2023 IPL season, and the World Test Championship final at The Oval.
He returned as captain for the Ireland series, guiding a second-string side in the absence of regular players, before being selected for the Asia Cup and World Cup squads. Later, Bumrah took a pause from the game against Nepal in the group stage of the continental tournament to return to Sri Lanka for the birth of his first child before returning to duty for the Super Four matches.
