At MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai, former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Irfan Pathan was ecstatic when the Afghanistan National Cricket Team defeated the Pakistan National Cricket Team.
This was the first victory for Afghanistan against the Men in Green in eight One-Day Internationals. Afghanistan defeated the Pakistan National Cricket Team, led by Babar Azam, by eight wickets.
The team's top four batsmen were sufficient to overcome the Pakistani bowlers and secure a victory on the challenging Chennai surface, which demanded 283 runs. The run-chase was successfully completed in 49 overs, aided by the sensational fifty-plus scores of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmat Shah.
A procession of honor was also performed in Chennai by the Afghanistan dugout subsequent to their triumphant raucous celebration. Irfan Pathan, headed by Hashmatullah Shahidi, demonstrated his elation following the triumph of the opposing team by engaging in a celebratory dance with Rashid Khan.

During the presentation ceremony following the match, Hashmatullah Shahidi remarked that they executed an outstanding run-chase. Clarified he:
“This win tastes nice. The way we chased was very professional. Looking forward for the other games. The way we chased today, we’ll do it again. The quality cricket that we have been playing from the last couple of years, the belief was there when we were playing the Asia Cup also.”
Hashmatullah Shahidi further revealed that his team's victories over England and Pakistan enabled him to accomplish his goal of making the ICC World Cup 2023 a momentous occasion. Clarified he:
“At the start of the tournament, I said that we want to make this tournament historic for our country people. First was England, today Pakistan, looking forward for the other games.”As further stated by Hashmatullah Shahidi, their performance in the match was comprehensive.
“We’ll try our best to play positive cricket and do a lot for our country in this World Cup. The spin bowling department did very well. We gave a chance to Noor and trusted in him, he showed his talent. The way Gurbaz and Ibrahim started the innings, they gave that momentum and confidence. The game was in our hand from the beginning till the end. The last partnership that me and Rahmat played was also good.”
