Zaka Ashraf expressed lack of surprise at Inzamam-ul-Haq's decision and claimed to be unaware of it. He stated that he scheduled a meeting with a former captain "to seek clarification on the ongoing controversy" prior to announcing his retirement. But rather than convene or provide clarification, he tendered his resignation.
There have been numerous controversies surrounding Pakistan Cricket, for those who are unaware. A screenshot of Babar Azam's conversation with PCB COO Salman Naseer was published by a Pakistani news channel subsequent to Rashid Latif's assertion that Zaka Ashraf was failing to respond to the captain's messages.
Furthermore, among the numerous Pakistan cricket authorities, PCB and Inzamam-ul-Haq were singled out for the team selection. They audaciously asserted that a lobbying group existed in the section, that they selected players at will, and that the entire team was assembled on the basis of personal friendships.
Inzamam-ul-Haq discusses his retirement
Inzamam-ul-Haq Haq discussed his resignation decision. He stated that his decision is predicated on the allegations of lobbying that have been leveled against him. He added that he will return to his position if PCB does not find him culpable in the case. His statement read:
"I am resigning in order to provide the PCB with the opportunity to undertake an open investigation into the allegations of conflict of interest that have been brought to light in the media. Should the committee acquit me, I shall reestablish myself in the capacity of the primary selector.
Prior to the 2023 Asia Cup, Inzamam-ul-Haq was designated as the principal selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team. Although his selections were satisfactory, the team's overall performance in both events fell short of expectations. During the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, the team led by Babar Azam is experiencing an abject performance.
Their record stands at 2 wins out of 6 contests, with losses recorded in matches against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. Their elimination from the tournament would be the consequence of one more defeat.
