IPL 2023: DEEPAK CHAHAR LIKELY TO MISS 4-5 GAME,STOKES OUT FOR A WEEK

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, their second consecutive victory in the current IPL 2023 season. However, the MS Dhoni-led squad sustained two significant injuries. Ben Stokes, captain of the England Test team, was injured prior to the match, and CSK lost fast bowler Deepak Chahar to a hamstring injury in the first over of the match against Mumbai. CSK provided a significant update on the two ailments on Sunday.

On Saturday, CSK disclosed that Stokes missed the match against Mumbai due to a minor toe injury. In spite of his knee injury concerns, the England all-rounder participated in the first two encounters, scoring 15 runs with the bat and bowling an over against Lucknow Super Giants.

Chahar, on the other hand, sustained a hamstring injury after delivering the fifth ball of the first over. After completing the over with the assistance of the team physiotherapist, he left the field.

Once the squad returns to Chennai, Chahar will undergo scans to determine the extent of his injury. The Chennai Super Kings medical staff is actively monitoring both players and will provide all necessary support for their recovery, according to a statement issued by the team.

This is the third occasion in the past year that Chahar has suffered a hamstring injury. In February 2022, he sustained a similar injury and, while rehabilitating, he sustained a back injury, which caused him to miss the entire IPL season and keep him out of action for six months.

In October, just two months after his return, a stiff back disqualified him from the T20 World Cup. Later in December of the previous year, he left an ODI match against Bangladesh with a hamstring injury after bowling three overs. He did not return to the sport until IPL 2023.
