Retention list of Trinbago Knight Riders and Saint Lucia Kings for CPL 2023

The Caribbean Premier League 2023 will commence on August 17, and Trinbago Knight Riders and St. Lucia Kings have announced their retentions. Knight Riders have retained Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, captain Kieron Pollard, and Nicholas Pooran, along with spinners Akeel Hosein and Jayden Seales. Mark Deyal, formerly of the St. Lucia Kings, will also be joining their roster.

In May, the Knight Riders announced that Dwayne Bravo would also return for CPL 2023. The retentions, according to head coach Phil Simmons, have allowed the franchise to create a strong core squad.

The majority of the Caribbean players from last year's TKR squad have been retained. The combination of Dwayne Bravo's return and the experience of Kieron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Nicholas Pooran gives our team a solid foundation. ESPNcricinfo quotes TKR head coach Phil Simmons as saying that Akeal Hosein, Jayden Seales, and Mark Deyal are among the top rising talents from Trinidad.

In 2022, the Knight Riders also acquired Maheesh Theekshana and Colin Munro as overseas players. However, their future with the franchise will become apparent when the club announces its international signings and draft picks in late June.

"We're looking forward to the remaining international acquisitions. Simmons added, "I am excited for the upcoming player draft to complete the roster and assemble a formidable squad for CPL 2023."

The Kings, meanwhile, have kept Johnson Charles, Alzarri Joseph, Roston Chase, Roshon Primus, Jeavor Royal, Matthew Forde, and Mckenny Clarke. In addition, they have secured the services of Knight Riders all-rounder Khary Pierre, who has been transferred to the franchise.

Kings, who finished third in the league stage before being eliminated by Jamaica Tallawahs in the Eliminator last year, will begin their tournament campaign on August 17 against the same team. Meanwhile, after finishing at the bottom of the table in 2022, the Knight Riders will attempt a resurgent season in 2023. They will begin their season against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots on August 19.
