Asia Cup 2023: Bangladesh Asia Cup Squad Announced

Bangladesh has named their 17-man squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is scheduled to commence in Multan on August 30. Due to his outstanding performance in domestic cricket, 22-year-old Tanzid Hasan has been selected for the mega event. He will replace Tamim Iqbal, who is presently sidelined with a back injury.

The opener has also resigned as captain of the ODI team, with BCB chairman Nazmul Hassan Papon confirming that veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will lead the team in the next two significant tournaments.

Regarding Tanzid, the cricketer scored three fifty-plus scores in the recently concluded Emerging Asia Cup. The cricketer was selected for the Asia Cup because he was one of the team's most reliable batsmen. As he was phenomenal in the previous season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), high expectations are placed on the cricketer.

On the other hand, the team has recalled Shamim Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, and Nasum Ahmed. Rony Talukdar, who was exceptional in the previous season of the Bangladesh Premier League, and Taijul Islam, who has played only four matches in the last four months, are not included.

Meanwhile, veteran batter Mahmudllah failed to make the mark once again. Since March 2023, when he last played for the Bangla Tigers, he has been out of contention. While announcing the team for the Ireland series, the selectors stated that the cricketer would be rested. However, he did not participate in the Afghanistan series and is not included in the Asia Cup squad.

Shakib, meanwhile, will be faced with a difficult task. In light of the recent turmoil in Bangladesh, he will also need to maintain control over the dressing room.
