India won their eighth Asia Cup title with a ten-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the final at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, September 17. The Sri Lankan captain, Dasun Shanaka, won the toss and elected to bat initially. However, the decision backfired spectacularly as they were bowled out for 50 thanks to Mohammed Siraj's sensational spell.
In seven overs, the right-arm seamer recorded his best bowling figures in ODIs, collecting 6/21. Other wicket-takers included Jasprit Bumrah (1/23, 5 overs) and Hardik Pandya (3/3 in 2.2 overs). Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill were the new opening combination for India's second innings.
The duo came out swinging and began establishing boundaries from the very first over. Due to their aggressive approach, India chased down the target in 6.1 overs and recorded its largest victory in terms of remaining balls (263 balls). Kishan remained undefeated with 23* (18), while Gill scored 27* from 19 attempts.
As a consequence, India won their eighth Asia Cup championship and maintained their dominance in the continental competition. The Men in Blue have won the most Asia Cup titles, followed by Sri Lanka with six and Pakistan with two.
