India's tour of the West Indies will now transfer its focus to the five-match T20I series following the conclusion of the Test and ODI series. The first Twenty-Twenty International will commence on Thursday, August 3 at Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. Notably, it will be a historic match for the Men in Blue, as they will be playing their 200th T20I International since their debut in 2006.

India has played 199 Twenty20 Internationals and won 127 of them. They have also won one Twenty20 World Cup. In terms of matches gained, they are the second most successful team in the format, trailing only archrivals Pakistan, who have won 134 of 223 matches. India will become only the second team to play 200 Twenty20 Internationals when they face West Indies in the first Twenty20 International.

The Asian giants made their T20I début on December 1, 2006 in Johannesburg against South Africa under the leadership of Virender Sehwag and won by six wickets. India, led by MS Dhoni, entered the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 without having played a single game in the new format.

The youthful team stunned everyone when they defeated Pakistan in the final to win the trophy and become the first ever T20 World Champions.

Hardik Pandya will continue to lead in T20Is

Hardik Pandya will captain another young Indian team in the T20I series against West Indies. Several IPL 2023 standouts, such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma, have received their first T20I call-up. Mukesh Kumar, who just made his Test debut, has also been added to the squad. 

They will be eager to leave their impression over five games and qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States and the West Indies.In contrast, after being defeated in ODIs and Tests, West Indies will attempt a spirited comeback in the format they prefer to play.
