Ishant Sharma backs Yashasvi Jaiswal to score big in Dominica Test

India seized control of the 1st Test against the West Indies in Dominica on the opening day due to R Ashwin's mesmerizing performance. After restricting the hosts to a meager 150 runs, the visitors reached 80 without loss and now trail by only 70 runs. Ashwin returned with figures of 5/60 in 24.3 overs and took his 700th international wicket when Alzarri Joseph was dismissed.

The visitors displayed exceptional field discipline and never allowed the hosts to settle in. Alick Athanaze, who was making his batting debut, scored 47 runs before being caught by Shardul Thakur off Ashwin.

India fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who made his début as an expert for JioCinema, commented on Day 2's proceedings: "Rohit Sharma (30 batting) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 batting) will take a cautious approach in the first hour. They will tell themselves that it's okay if we don't score runs because we have a solid foundation. They will attempt to score the remaining 70 runs slowly because there is still a lot of time left in the game.

Ishant said of Yashasvi, who is participating in his first Test, "He now has a solid foundation on which to build." He should first attempt to reach fifty and then develop his innings gradually. It's an excellent chance for him to score a century."

As demonstrated on Wednesday, the wicket has been advantageous for spinners. "As the day progresses, the wicket will deteriorate as well. Ishant stated that, given their current position, India would aim for a 300-run margin to avoid having to bat in the second innings.

Ishant believes that if the West Indies remain focused, they can still fight back. "The first session will be essential for the West Indies. Even if they are unable to take wickets in the first hour, they should attempt to remain competitive by limiting the run rate. India is currently 80 without loss, but the hosts will realize that if they only concede 20 or so runs in the first hour, they will be in a strong position to take wickets after that. They can then use the pitch to assist their spinners."
