India and Bangladesh played the final encounter of the Super Four stage at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bangladesh was eliminated after Super Four losses to Sri Lanka and Pakistan, whereas India has already advanced to the final.

On Friday, September 15, both India and Bangladesh made five alterations to their starting XIs for the dead rubber. Virat Kohli was the most notable name absent from the roster, as he was rested alongside Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav, among others.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. This was India's first pursuit in the Super Four stage of the competition in 2018. India's fielding was average, but Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur were excellent with the new ball. In 14 overs, Bangladesh lost four wickets for 59 runs and were in dire straits.

However, a partnership of 101 runs between Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy helped their team establish a solid foundation. At one point, they lost three batsmen for 33 runs, and India regained the upper hand. In spite of this, Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan displayed commendable fortitude and determination to lead Bangladesh to a respectable score of 265/8 after 50 overs.

With the new ball, rookie Tanzim Hasan Sakib dismissed Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma. India lost wickets at regular intervals because their batsmen were unable to adjust to the challenging batting conditions.

Shubman Gill, on the other hand, was exceptional as he scored 121 runs off 133 deliveries. Axar Patel attempted to bring India home with a 42-ball innings, but he was dismissed at a crucial moment. However, he fell in the penultimate over as India were bowled out for 259 with one delivery remaining. Bangladesh concluded their Asia Cup campaign on a positive note by winning by six runs.
