The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced their 17-member Asia Cup 2023 squad. Sri Lanka and Pakistan will co-host the tournament, which will commence on August 30. As the competition approaches, the various competing teams will be eager to put forth their best efforts and claim the coveted title.

Hashmatullah Shahidi would captain the team in the championship match. In addition, Karim Janat and Azmatullah Omarzai have been reinstated, and experienced players Rahmat Shah and Najibullah Zadran, who were injured and missed Pakistan's ODIs for the same reason, have returned to the squad. In addition to the dazzling talents in the batting department, Rashid Khan, Fazal Haq Farooqi, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman will lead the bowling attack.

Afghanistan hopes to forget series loss to Pakistan

Afghanistan will enter the Asia Cup 2023 on the heels of a series setback to Pakistan in One-Day Internationals. The team came near to winning the second match, but ultimately lost a dramatic match by one wicket. Afghanistan was defeated by 142 runs (first ODI) and 59 runs (third ODI) to finish with a 0-3 record.

They have been assigned in Group B alongside Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for the 2023 Asia Cup. They begin their season on September 3 against Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. On September 5, they will play Sri Lanka at the same venue.
