This is what Pat Cummins said on bowling most expensive spell in Test career

"As a bowler it's frustrating that I didn't bowl very well at all, not up to the standards I try and keep myself to. Just execution " he said.

This is what Pat Cummins said on bowling most expensive spell in Test career

Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, the Australian team is reliving its former grandeur. Australia recently defeated India in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final and has now retained the Ashes for the fourth consecutive year after the fourth Test at Old Trafford ended in a draw due to rain.

Australia was trailing by 61 runs in the second innings after stumps on Day 4 of the final match at Manchester, with a score of 214 for five and a deficit of 61 runs. However, the final day was rained out, rendering play impossible.

The worst period for the Australians in Manchester occurred on Day 2, when the English team scored more than seven runs per over against Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazelwood. Notably, the Australian captain Cummins bowled the most expensive spell of his Test career, conceding 129 runs in 23 overs for one wicket.

In the post-match press conference, Cummins stated, "That two-hour block in the middle session was not our best."

"We attempted a few different strategies against them, and maybe on another day they'll work; a few of the edges carried through and a few catches were dropped, but I thought they batted well.

"As a bowler, it's frustrating that I bowled so poorly, not up to the standards I strive to maintain. Just execution. I permit more boundary breaches than usual. "There are probably only one or two bad balls per over," stated the Australian captain.

"I honestly do not know (why). When asked if leadership is a burden for him, he responded, "I don't know. Rhythm felt pretty good, and I felt pretty clear on my own plans, so I don't know."

In both innings, Australia's batsmen threw away wickets at crucial periods, which was not particularly impressive. The team captained by Pat Cummins was bowled out for 317, and with the exception of Marnus Labuschagne (51 and 111), no other batsman performed well at Old Trafford.
