After the IND vs PAK game, Virat Kohli opened up on his fitness, recovery, match preparation and much more.
India won the Super Fours match against Pakistan at the R Premadasa in Colombo after enduring a tumultuous coaster of emotions and numerous interruptions. Virat Kohli discussed his fitness, recovery, match preparation, and much more after the contest. In his international career, the 34-year-old has never played back-to-back ODI matches on consecutive days.
"It's the first time I have done anything like this in 15 years of cricket. We are Test players, so we know how to return the next day and continue playing. Recuperation is vital. Today it was humid outside. In November I will turn 35, so I must attend to my recovery. In his post-match presentation, Virat Kohli expressed his appreciation for the ground staff.
In the beginning of the match, Babar Azam won the toss and placed India in to bat. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came all guns firing right from the get-go and took the attack to Shaheen Afridi to put Pakistan on the backfoot. The opening pair strung together 121 runs before Pakistan's Shadab Khan struck first, sending Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion for 56.
Afridi dismissed the opener with a clever change-of-pace delivery for 58 runs, and Shubman Gill followed his captain back to the pavilion. After that, it was all Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, as their 233-run partnership propelled India to a mammoth 356-run total. Rahul scored 111* while Virat Kohli scores 122*.
Pakistan had a mountain to conquer, but their hesitant start did not make the task any easier. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed the in-form Imam-ul-Haq for nine, and Hardik Pandya bowled Babar Azam with a ball that angled back in. In just eight overs, Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets while conceding only 25 runs against Pakistan after being introduced by Rohit Sharma.
India won the match by 228 runs, and Virat Kohli was named the contest's Most Valuable Player for his sensational innings. Tuesday, September 12 at the R Premadasa in Colombo, India will play Sri Lanka.
