Bangladesh team in big trouble ahead of Asia Cup 2023

Due to illness, the Bangladesh squad that will travel to Sri Lanka for the 2023 Asia Cup will be missing its star batsman. Notably, from August 30 to September 17, the continental championship will be contested in a hybrid paradigm.

Bangladesh will commence their campaign on August 31 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy against the defending champions Sri Lanka. Consequently, Bangladesh will face Afghanistan on September 3 at the Gaddafi Stadium in their final group stage match.

On August 27, the Bangladesh contingent will depart Dhaka. Young pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who was recently added to the squad in lieu of the injured Ebadot Hossain, will also miss the flight. Until his ticket is confirmed, he will travel to the host nation at a later date.

Jalal Younus, chairman of the Cricket Operations Committee for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed Litton's unavailability on Sunday, August 27.

"Liton is experiencing fever. He did not test positive for Dengue. Therefore, he will board the next flight to Sri Lanka if he recovers quickly. However, if he does not recover, we may need to consider a replacement," Jalal told The Daily Star.

BCB's chief physician, Debashis Chowdhury, told Prothom Alo that the wicketkeeper-batsman's illness is not severe and that he will rejoin the team shortly."Litton is experiencing a temperature. However, the matter is not critical. Each and every test result is positive. "Once he recovers, he will rejoin the team," Debashis said.

Our goal is to compete in the Asia Cup final: Taskin Ahmed

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed stated that the team hopes to reach the Asia Cup 2023 final. According to the 28-year-old, the continental championship will help the team prepare for the eagerly anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup in India.

"Our primary objective is to reach the Asia Cup final. If we reach the Asia Cup final, we will have accomplished a great feat collectively. We naturally desire to become champions. The most important issue is that we play good cricket. In addition, the World Cup is approaching. If we all perform to the best of our abilities, we have a decent chance of winning. Please pray for us so that we can all play our finest cricket," Taskin was quoted by Prothom Alo as saying.
