Big blow for Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out of World Cup 2023

Wanindu Hasaranga, a spin-bowling all-rounder for Sri Lanka, has been ruled out of the ODI World Cup 2023. According to India.com, a torn hamstring will prevent Hasaranga from participating in the prestigious event in India. Sri Lanka Cricket has until September 28 to name Hasaranga's replacement, as final World Cup squads must be submitted by then.

Hasaranga was previously unable to compete in the recently concluded Asia Cup due to the same injury. His last appearance was during the Lanka Premier League, when he captained the B Kandy Love team.

Wanindu Hasaranga exhibited remarkable all-around ability and was in top form during the recently concluded Lanka Premier League. He accumulated 279 runs and 19 wickets to emerge as the tournament's leading run scorer and wicket-taker, respectively.

He won multiple awards, including most sixes, most wickets, and most runs, and was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. This emphasizes his importance to the Sri Lankan team. If Hasaranga is unable to compete in the World Cup, the team will suffer a significant setback.

Sri Lanka recently suffered another setback when spinner Mahesh Theekshana was injured during the Asia Cup. It appears, however, that he will recuperate in time to participate in the World Cup.

Dushmantha Chameera, a key pace bowler for Sri Lanka, is also coping with an injury and has not played since the Sri Lanka Premier League. His participation in the World Cup is also highly doubtful. These injuries to key players will unquestionably be a significant setback for the team and may hinder their chances of performing well in the prestigious tournament.

The eagerly anticipated ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to begin on October 5 in India with a match between the champions of the previous tournament, England and New Zealand. On October 7th, Sri Lanka's first encounter will be against South Africa.
