This followed a lackluster performance by the top order of Sri Lanka during the match, during which they encountered difficulties against the fast bowlers from India.
Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss prior to the match and elected to field first in the oppressively sultry conditions of Mumbai. Rohit Sharma, captain of India, was despatched by Dilshan Madhushanka's exquisite overhanging ball on the second delivery of the match. This was an unfortunate beginning for India.
On the contrary, a formidable 189-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill for the second wicket created the illusion that either player could reach a century. Both players were ultimately dispatched by Madushanka, with Gill amassing 92 runs and Kohli 88.
Subsequently, Shreyas Iyer entered the fray and attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers with aggression, amassing an instantaneous 82 runs off of 56 deliveries, including six sixes and three fours. In the final stages, Ravindra Jadeja contributed several potent smashes that assisted the Indian team in amassing an enormous total of 357 in 50 overs.
Indian Pacer Fumbled Sri Lankan Batting
The pace assault of India presented a formidable challenge for the Sri Lankan batsmen in reply. The match began with Jasprit Bumrah eliciting the first blood with the very first delivery, and Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj then caused pandemonium for the Sri Lankan team. Siraj took three wickets and Shami claimed an additional five for the tournament, combining to bowl Sri Lanka out for just 55 runs. By 302 runs, India emerged victorious, and Shami was named Man of The Match in recognition of his exceptional bowling performance.
