Jimmy Neesham, who was instrumental in the dramatic 2019 Cricket World Cup final, has been included in New Zealand's 15-man squad for this year's tournament in India.

Neesham was selected to bat for New Zealand in the last World Cup final against England at Lord's, which necessitated a Super Over to determine the winner. After the Super Over, the teams were still deadlocked, and England won the world championship on a countback of boundaries.

Neesham and Trent Boult, who both played in that match, were added to the New Zealand squad on Monday despite not being on the list of centrally contracted players.Kane Williamson will captain the New Zealand cricket team despite still recovering from a severe knee injury he sustained in April during the Indian Premier League. It is not yet known when Williamson will be cleared to play.

Tim Southee and Williamson have been selected for their fourth World Cups. Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, and Will Young will be participating in their first 50-overs World Cup.

Boult, Matt Henry, and vice-captain Tom Latham will each be participating in their third World Cup."From Kane and Tim heading to their fourth tournament to the guys selected for the first time, it's always a very exciting time," stated head coach Gary Stead. There have been some difficult decisions, and some players will be disappointed.

"The key for us was finding the right balance for the team and ensuring that all bases were covered for a very competitive tournament,"On September 29 in Hyderabad, New Zealand will play Pakistan in a warm-up match before the tournament begins on October 5.
