World Cup 2023: Lucknow becomes 21st Indian city to host ODI World Cup match
Lucknow becomes the 21st Indian city to get honour of hosting ICC World Cup matches in the 50-over format.
The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup is presently under way, featuring international teams vying for the prestigious championship. India is the designated host of this tournament, and the inaugural World Cup event being played in the city of Lucknow is a momentous occasion in this competition.
The Ekana Stadium, situated in Lucknow, has been added to the prestigious roster of cities that have hosted 50-over ICC World Cup matches. By hosting the tenth match of the ongoing tournament, which pitted Australia against South Africa, Lucknow attains the distinction of being the twenty-first Indian city to do so.
Chennai is among the other cities that have hosted ODI World Cup matches. The following cities are listed in no particular order: Dharamsala, Bangalore, Mumbai, Indore, Kanpur, Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Mohali, Nagpur, Baroda/Vadodara, Cuttack, Gwalior, Vizag, Patna, and Pune.
On October 29, Lucknow is also scheduled to host the marquee match between England and India. In addition to the scheduled contests for India and England, the Ekana Cricket Stadium will also accommodate two matches for the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Australia.
Since its inauguration in 2017, the stadium has rapidly solidified its reputation as a bastion of cricket, featuring an impressive nine turfs, five of which are red clay, which are ideal preparations for the magnitude of this tournament.
At Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, the 22-yard pitch is typically designed with spinners in mind. Due to the wicket's responsive and sluggish characteristics, the spin masters are well positioned to make an impact during the World Cup. It is highly probable that the match between India and England, which is among the most anticipated, will be played on the difficult red soil and promises to be a riveting battle.
Amazing cricketing action at Ekana Stadium
The stadium, boasting an enormous capacity of around 50,000 spectators, serves as a prominent symbol of the fervor surrounding cricket in India. The enormous 44,296 seats in the general stands that flank the East and West ends guarantee an energizing environment for the spectators. Even more astounding is the lack of sight screens and pillars, which affords all attendees an unobstructed, panoramic vista.
In addition to hosting women's international cricket and serving as the home field for the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants, the Ekana Cricket Stadium is more than just a venue for international cricket. Moreover, it has been designated as the main field for international matches of the Afghan men's national team.
