Glenn Maxwell to play County championship after four years
He will be seen returning for international duties in the three-match T20I series against South Africa beginning on August 30.
Glenn Maxwell makes a rare appearance in first-class cricket for Warwickshire in their county championship match against Kent on 10 July in Canterbury. Maxwell was at Edgbaston as a T20 Blast overseas recruit for the Birmingham Bears. However, Birmingham was eliminated from the tournament after losing to Essex by two wickets in the first quarter-final.
Maxwell's performance in the T20 Blast 2023 was disappointing, as he scored 248 runs in 14 matches with an average of 17.71 and a strike rate of 153.08. The all-rounder is making his first county appearance since 2019 when he played for Lancashire. Since then, the 34-year-old has only played one first-class match, for Victoria against South Australia in February of this year. In September 2017, he last played a Test match against Bangladesh in Chattogram.
Maxwell has replaced Hassan Ali, for Warwickshire. The county club recently loaned Dom Bess, as Jacob Bethell's back ailment limits him to batting at the moment. As a consequence, Maxwell will be the spin option in Canterbury, where Kent elected to bat first after winning the toss.
They were reduced to 77/6 at Lunch, which was not the greatest start. In the first session, Chris Rushworth, Oliver Hannon-Dalby, and Henry Brookes each took two wickets, while Maxwell conceded six runs while bowling three overs.
