Asian Cricket Council Decide To Move Asia Cup Out Of Pakistan
PCB's proposal to host the tournament on a 'hybrid model' was rejected by the member nations.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) resolved on Monday to move the Asia Cup out of Pakistan after the PCB's proposal to host the tournament on a 'hybrid model' was rejected by the member nations. Sri Lanka has emerged as the frontrunner to host the six-nation tournament, as September's exceedingly humid conditions in the UAE could result in player injuries.
After this rebuff, it will be intriguing to see if Pakistan participates in the tournament scheduled for September 2-17.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was compelled to propose an alternative after the BCCI refused to dispatch the Indian team to the neighboring country due to diplomatic tensions between the two nations.
In the event of a change of heart, the PCB is hopeful that there will be another round of discussions on Tuesday.PCB had proposed that India play their matches in the UAE, while Pakistan host theirs at home.
"Najam Sethi (chairman of the PCB) was in Dubai today to solicit support, but to his dismay, there were no respondents for his proposal that Pakistan play its games in Karachi or Lahore and India play in the United Arab Emirates. Sri Lanka was always on the side of the BCCI, but now even the Bangladesh Cricket Board appears to be against the notion, a source for the ACC told PTI.
"ACC has always maintained that the 'hybrid model' is unacceptable in principle and that the budgetary sanctions can never be passed."Also, Pakistan hosting its own matches is not the issue. It also implies that if India and Pakistan are in the same group, the third team will travel between Dubai and a city in Pakistan, according to the source.
PCB's recent decision to host Pakistan Super League matches in the United Arab Emirates as a result of rising security costs has added fuel to the fire."Moreover, logistically, broadcasters would not want to dispatch separate units to two different countries. "Sri Lanka, like the UAE, does not require inter-city flights, whether you're playing at Khettarama, SSC, Galle, or Kandy," he added.

To make the decision official, however, ACC chairman Jay Shah will need to convene an Executive Body meeting.Whether Pakistan participates in the event or decides not to attend the World Cup in India depends on the current circumstances.Even the ICC will not allow Pakistan to play its World Cup matches outside of India. Let's see what the PCB decides," the source continued.
