BCCI Announces Replacement Of KL Rahul For WTC Final
BCCI named Ishan Kishan as KL Rahul replacement for World Test Championship Final.
The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) announced on Sunday that KL Rahul has been ruled out of the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval next month due to an injury sustained during the ongoing IPL 2023. The selectors chose Ishan Kishan to replace Rahul in the major final. The BCCI has not yet made a decision regarding Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav's ailments.
On May 1, during the IPL 2023 match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Stadium, Rahul sustained a right upper thigh injury while fielding and was subsequently declared out for the remainder of the tournament. "After consulting with specialists, it was determined that Rahul would endure surgery as soon as possible, followed by rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. The BCCI has declared him out of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.
Three days prior to BCCI's official announcement, Rahul had already verified that he would be unable to travel to London for the WTC final in a lengthy Instagram post a few days after sustaining his injury. He had stated, "Absolutely devastated that I won't be at the Oval with Team India next month. I will do everything in my power to rejoin the blue and assist my country. This has always been my main concentration and priority.
BCCI also provided a significant injury update on Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav. During the net session, the LSG fast bowler suffered a severe injury to his bowling shoulder after stumbling over the side rope while bowling. BCCI will attentively monitor his development at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before deciding whether to announce his replacement.
"A specialist consultation has been sought, and the left-handed fast bowler is presently undergoing shoulder rehabilitation and strengthening at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The BCCI statement added, "A decision regarding his participation in the WTC final will be made at a later date."

Umesh suffered a minor left hamstring injury during Kolkata Knight Riders' April 26 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. As part of his rehabilitation, the fast bowler has begun low-intensity bowling under the supervision of the KKR Medical Team. The BCCI Medical Team is in constant contact with the KKR Medical Team and is intently monitoring Umesh's condition," according to the update.
In addition, the selectors have named three reserve players for the WTC Final: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, and Suryakumar Yadav.
