Asia Cup 2023: What India need to do to reach Super Fours after washout ?

It appeared that the India vs. Pakistan match at the Asia Cup 2023 would live up to its reputation and provide a thrilling contest, but rain in Pallekele prevented this from happening. India made an incredible comeback, led by Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan, while Pakistan's pacers, led by Shaheen Afridi, placed their batters in all sorts of trouble.

It was foretold that rain would play a role in the game, and it did so by forcing two brief breaks during the Indian innings. It returned as the players began to leave the field after India's final wicket fell and never departed again.

There was a point when it ceased and all the covers were removed. Pakistan appeared to have a chance, even if it was a limited one and the Indian bowlers had come out to limber up. But just before the scheduled resumption time, the rain returned, preventing any further play.

The group tables Pakistan and India are paired with the outsiders Nepal in Group A. While this was India's first encounter of the tournament, Pakistan had just defeated Nepal by 238 runs in their first match in Multan. With both teams earning a point from the Saturday match that was postponed due to inclement weather, Pakistan's qualification for the Super Four stage is now assured. Nepal are presently in third place with no points, while India are second with one.

In Group B, Sri Lanka has faced Bangladesh once, while Afghanistan has yet to play in the tournament. This victory by Sri Lanka over Afghanistan by five wickets places them at the summit of the table.

What India must do for qualification ?

While India's spot in the Super Four has yet to be confirmed, Nepal would have to pull off a monumental upset and defeat the six-time Asia Cup ODI champions in order to threaten Rohit Sharma's squad's progression. India currently has no NRR, while Nepal's stands at -4.760.

The fact remains, however, that India only needs one more match without a result to qualify. The only way they will not advance is if they lose to Nepal in their next match, which is scheduled to take place on Monday in Pallekele.
