The Ashes 2023 exceeded every expectation. The premier series was quite an emotional roller coaster for both English and Australian admirers. After Australia's brilliant start to the series under the leadership of Pat Cummins, England mounted a revival, winning the third and fifth Tests of the series.

With the series terminating in a 2-2 tie, the ICC Men's Player Rankings also experienced a significant shift. With the conclusion of the Ashes, many English batters rose in the player rankings, with Joe Root coming near to the top spot in the Test rankings.

As a result of England's strong performances towards the end of the series, batting superstar Joe Root moved up one position in the rankings to second place, just behind New Zealand's Kane Williamson. In the series, young actor Harry Brook also delivered exemplary performances. Due to his improved performance, he is currently in ninth position.

The wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow moved up two spots to the seventeenth position, while the opener Zak Crawley is in the thirty-first position. Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja were the only two Australian batsmen to climb the rankings.

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin maintained his number one ranking, while retiring fast bowler Stuart Broad made the most progress.

Broad is now positioned in fourth place in the ICC Test Bowler Rankings after climbing four positions. Mark Wood earned his highest ranking in his career, climbing two positions to 21st. Chris Woakes also attained the 23rd position in the rankings. Mitchell Starc moved up two positions and is now in 12th place for the Australians. Furthermore, minor adjustments were made to the ODI rankings as well. Ishan Kishan, a 25-year-old wicketkeeper, moved up 15 spots in the ODI batter rankings to reach 45th place after India's dominant ODI series victory against the West Indies. As a result of Kuldeep Yadav's outstanding performance in the three-match series, he has risen to 14th in the rankings.
