Why Suryakumar Yadav wore Sanju Samson's jersey in first ODI ?

India began the ODI series against the West Indies on a strong note, defeating the hosts by five wickets in the series opener on Thursday, July 27 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. During the game, Suryakumar Yadav was seen donning a jersey that was not his, causing some confusion and amusement.

Suryakumar assumed the name and number of wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson's shirt. Notably, Samson's fans were upset when he was left off the starting lineup, and the image of Suryakumar donning Samson's jersey has gone viral on social media.

A BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) source told The Indian Express that Suryakumar donned a different shirt because there was an issue with his. He will don Samson's shirt until he receives his jersey after the second ODI against the West Indies, according to the source.

New Chic

"There was an issue with the sizing of his jersey. We were informed two days prior to the event. After the second ODI, he will receive his new jersey, as the BCCI has shipped it with the Indian team players designated for the T20 series. Until then, he will don his teammate's jersey during games, a source told The Indian Express.

In addition, this is the second consecutive year that team India has encountered logistical difficulties during their Caribbean tour. A T20I series in 2022 was postponed due to a delay in transporting the team's luggage from Trinidad to St. Kitts.

India defeats the West Indies by one wicket to establish a 1-0 lead

Rohit Sharma, captain of India, won the toss and invited Shai Hope and company to bat first. India relied heavily on Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, who finished with 4/6 and 3/37, respectively, to restrict the West Indies to a meagre 114 runs and aid their team win. Ishan Kishan, who opened with Shubman Gill, struck a fifty in the 23rd over as the tourists chased the target.
