Franchises' purse for IPL 2024 auction to be increased to INR 100 crore
The date for the auction will be decided following the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup which will be played in in October-November.
The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is anticipated to take place in late December. There may be some adjustments to the franchises' budgets. It is believed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will likely increase the prize pool for the upcoming IPL mini-auction to INR 100 crore.
In addition to this, franchises will be permitted to retain as many players as they wish, while the remaining players will be auctioned off. In addition, the BCCI is considering holding the mini-auction in late December to avoid a conflict with the Christmas holidays. In addition, the auction date will be determined following the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be held in India during the months of October and November.
Once every facet of the World Cup has been addressed, we will move on to the IPL. The date will be determined following the World Cup. Probably around the third or fourth week of December. However, it will not be discussed until a later IPL GC meeting. Certainly, it will not be on Christmas Eve. A BCCI official was quoted by Sportskeeda as saying, "We'll try to find a date that works for everyone."
Mumbai, Jaipur, and Kolkata vie to host the IPL 2024 auction
The BCCI has shortlisted Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Kochi, and Kolkata to host the 2024 mini-auction, according to the report. In the previous edition's auction, 80 players were sold for a total of INR 167 crore to 10 franchises in Kochi.
In addition, franchises broke the bank for numerous players, such as Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Nicholas Pooran, and Cameron Green, who sold for record prices at the 2023 auction. Curran was the most expensive player acquired at the auction, as Punjab Kings (PBKS) paid INR 18.5 crore for his services. In order to strengthen their rosters, teams will spend record sums to acquire elite cricketers in the upcoming edition.
