Watch: Samson blocks wide to allow Jaiswal score century, similar as Dhoni for Kohli
Samson gesture to allow Jaiswal score century reminded same from MS Dhoni for Virat Kohli 2014 T20 World Cup.
The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) provided a memorable evening for RR supporters. RR entered the match needing a victory to end their poor run of form and improve their prospects of advancing past the league stage. Young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 98 runs off 47 deliveries to help the team not only win the game, but also annihilate the opposition.
In response to Yuzvendra Chahal's four-wicket haul, which helped RR restrict KKR to 149/8, Jaiswal went for big shots from the very first delivery of his innings. Beginning the innings by striking two sixes off the first two balls, he amassed a staggering 26 runs off the first over. In the end, Jaiswal broke the record for the quickest fifty in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 13 balls.

While Jos Buttler fell for a duck, captain Sanju Samson eventually began hitting as freely as Jaiswal, and the competition ultimately boiled down to whether the latter can reach a hundred before the end of the pursuit.
With RR needing only three runs to win and one ball remaining in the 13th over, Jaiswal lost the strike and reached 94 with one ball remaining and RR needing only three runs to win. Samson was on 48 off 28 at the time, and Suyash appeared to have sent the ball wide down the leg side while bowling. Samson, however, moved his front leg completely and blocked the ball before requesting, ostensibly, that he hit a six himself to conclude the match.
Several admirers on social media praised the act, with some comparing it to what MS Dhoni did for Virat Kohli in the 2014 T20 World Cup semifinal. Here is how the Internet reacted to Samson's act of kindness for Yashasvi Jaiswal's century.

Kohli had spearheaded India's pursuit of a target of 173 with a blistering innings. Dhoni, who had not yet faced a ball, arrived at the crease for the final delivery of the 19th over with the score tied. The then-Indian captain blocked the shot and then appeared to urge Kohli to complete it. Kohli did so with a four off the first delivery of the following over, finishing unbeaten with 72 runs off 44 balls.
Similarly, Jaiswal hit a four off the first delivery of the subsequent over. Even though he did not reach his second century of the season, he celebrated as if he had by removing his helmet, gesturing to his jersey, and raising his bat into the air. Later, Jaiswal stated that this was his favorite shot of the day because he had always desired to end a pursuit.
