Chahal Surpasses Bravo To Become Leading Wicket Taker In IPL
Yuzvendra Chahal has broken the record of Dwayne Bravo against KKR who earlier had 183 wickets in the IPL.
In the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), on Thursday, senior spinner Yuzvendra Chahal added another feather to his illustrious T20 cap during Rajasthan Royals' (RR) away match against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. The RR spinner took Nitish Rana's crucial wicket to surpass the legendary all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. Chahal also became the IPL's all-time Leading Wicket Taker with this monumental achievement.
Chahal, one of the greatest bowlers in IPL history, broke Bravo's record during the 56th match of the prestigious tournament. Chahal had previously tied Bravo's record with a four-wicket haul against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Chahal overtook Bravo on the IPL's leaderboard for wicket-takers by dismissing KKR's captain Rana during RR's ongoing match.
In the tenth over, Chahal was introduced into the attack by the captain, Samson. Chahal accomplished the extraordinary feat in the IPL by eliminating Rana in his first over, thereby claiming the golden wicket. Over 184 wickets have been taken by the leading wicket-taker in the annals of the IPL. Chahal is followed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Bravo, who took 183 wickets throughout his legendary IPL tenure.
On the exclusive roster, the former West Indies star is ahead of veteran bowlers Piyush Chawla (174), Amit Mishra (172), and Ravichandran Ashwin (171). Chahal has taken 18 wickets in the 2023 edition of the lucrative cricket league. Over 140 matches have been contested by the 32-year-old in the lucrative league. In 2013, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RR) star made his IPL debut at Eden Gardens against the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the premier T20 competition, Chahal has also played for RCB and Mumbai Indians in addition to Rajasthan Royals.
"On this principle, I did not wish to provide simple limits. The pitcher desired to keep the ball away from the batters. The pitch was sluggish, which helped me. (On becoming the IPL's highest wicket-taker) When I entered the IPL with MI, I never imagined I would reach this position. I am here because of the support I've received from family and friends along the journey. Definitely thankful to everyone. Chahal stated during an innings break, "I hope we can win today, as the batters should be able to score runs."
