The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will begin on October 5 in India, while the United States will begin their campaign on October 8 against Australia. Several members of the Indian team will be participating in their third World Cup, while only Virat Kohli will be playing in his fourth. Several luminaries, including Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, and MS Dhoni, have also participated in four ODI World Cups.

Conversely, legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list, having participated in six ODI World Cups throughout his career. Together with Pakistan's Javed Miandad, he holds the world record for the most occasions his country has been represented on cricket's grandest stage. Many other luminaries, including Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, and Jacques Kallis, have participated in five ODI World Cups.

Meanwhile, in 2011, at the age of 22, Kohli participated in his first ODI World Cup and scored a magnificent hundred on his World Cup debut against Bangladesh, scoring 100* (83). The Delhi-born cricketer scored an additional 59 against the West Indies and 49 against Sri Lanka in the championship match.

The star India batsman opened the 2015 edition with a scintillating hundred against Pakistan, scoring 107 (126) with the assistance of eight fours. In the subsequent seven innings of the tournament, he was unable to surpass the 50-run plateau.

Later in the 2019 tournament, Kohli led the Indian team in scoring 443 runs in nine innings with a 55.37 batting average, a 94.05 strike rate, and five fifty-plus scores. The 34-year-old is the second-highest run scorer for India in ODI World Cups having 1030 runs to his name from 26 innings at an average of 46.81 and a strike rate of 86.70 with two hundreds and six fifties to his name.
