Ruturaj Gaikwad Breaks Virat Kohli's Magnificent IPL Record With Fourth IPL Qualifier 1
Ruturaj Gaikwad hammered 60 off 44 balls, which featured seven fours and a maximum,which helped CSK to win over Gujarat.
Tuesday evening at the Chepauk Stadium, Ruturaj Gaikwad led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 playoffs. Gaikwad smashed 60 off 44 deliveries, including seven fours and a six, after Gujarat won the toss and asked CSK to bat first. Other than Gill, none of his teammates were able to reach 50 runs as CSK reached 172/7 after 20 overs.
Gaikwad's performance also allowed him to break Virat Kohli's record against Gujarat. The CSK opener has now scored 278 runs in four innings against the defending champions, whereas Kohli has scored 232 runs in three innings.
In fact, this was the fourth occasion CSK has faced Gujarat, and Gaikwad has scored a half-century each time. Gaikwad scored 92 runs off 50 deliveries in Gujarat's season-opening victory by five wickets.
In the previous edition, Gaikwad had scored 73(48) and 53(49) when CSK faced GT. However, both knocks were in vain, and CSK will be hopeful to open their account tonight (Tuesday) against Gujarat.
Conway and Gaikwad gave CSK a solid start on the spin-friendly Chepauk track, to return to the match. Before Mohit Sharma provided Gujarat with the first breakthrough in the form of Gaikwad, the duo combined for 87 runs. Conway tallied 40 off of 34 balls, including four home runs.
Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma each took two wickets for the GT, while Darshan Nalkande, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad each captured one.
In response, Gujarat lost Wriddhiman Saha and their captain, Hardik Pandya, for low scores. Shubman Gill, who enters the contest on the heels of two consecutive centuries, is joined by Dasun Shanaka in the run pursuit from the middle.
