With CSK and Lucknow Super Giants resuming their rivalry in the 16th edition of the cash-rich league, Chennai captain Dhoni discussed his future with the Yellow Brigade. During the traditional coin-toss at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, popular commentator Danny Morrison asked Dhoni if the former India captain and IPL legend is currently authoring the final chapters of his legendary career.

"This magnificent farewell tour, your last, how are you enjoying it?" Morrison popped the million-dollar query. Dhoni, whose nickname is Thala, was as calm as a cucumber as he discussed his retirement during his freewheeling conversation with Morrison.Dhoni responded, "Well, you have decided that this will be my last game." The statement made by Dhoni was an instant success with fans and followers of the game.

In 2020, Thala Dhoni famously assured the CSK faithful that he would not be retiring from the IPL. Earlier in the previous season, the player with the most appearances in IPL history hinted at ending his illustrious career. "I will certainly be wearing the yellow jersey. Last year, when Morrison asked Dhoni about his retirement, Dhoni replied, "You will have to wait and see if it's this yellow jersey or another yellow jersey."

Dhoni affirmed the return of pacer Deepak Chahar for CSK's away match against LSG in the IPL 2023 while speaking at the toss of the coin. "We're going to play first. Due to the fact that the wicket was covered and it appears a bit sloppy, we will seek to bowl first. You must review all conditions and the location. Deepak (Chahar) is healthy for us, so he replaces Akash (Singh). After winning the toss and opting to bowl against Lucknow, Dhoni stated that the rest of the team remained unchanged.
