Kohli was energized and ebullient throughout LSG's pursuit. It appeared to be a direct response to LSG's coach Gambhir's excessive celebrations after they defeated RCB in the season's first leg. The RCB stalwart was observed yelling, fist-pumping, and pressing his finger to his lips before imploring the audience not to be quiet. It was a response to Gambhir's'shushing' gesture after the thrilling final ball in Bangalore.
In the second half of the LSG pursuit, however, things began to flare up. Kohli had heated exchanges with LSG cricketers Amit Mishra and Naveen-ul-Haq in the 17th over, which persisted long after the match had ended.
When both teams lined up for the customary handshake, Kohli and Naveen once again exchanged a few words, and the Afghanistan pacer was observed pushing off Kohli after an aggressive handshake. The LSG opener Kyle Mayers was then observed speaking with Kohli when Gambhir arrived and removed the left-hander. This did not appear to sit well with Kohli, as he walked away after staring.
However, Gambhir was not finished. He was observed flinging expletives at Kohli. Multiple times, the former India opening batsman was observed charging towards Kohli while his teammates, including captain KL Rahul, attempted to soothe him down. The situation deteriorated when Gambhir broke away and confronted Kohli, who also refused to retreat. The players exchanged heated words, with Kohli attempting to convey the situation to Gambhir.
