Monday's IPL 2023 match at the Ekana Stadium was highlighted by Gautam Gambhir versus Virat Kohli. Why? Their rivalry is well-known, having begun in this IPL tournament in 2013 during a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. Last month, when Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted Lucknow Super Giants at the Chinnaswamy stadium, Gambhir celebrated crazily before shaking hands with Kohli after LSG's victory. The former India opener and current LSG coach also silenced the audience by placing a finger to his lips.

On Monday, Kohli responded with flair and a "boss-like" twist. However, the story did not conclude there. After RCB's 18-run victory, Kohli and Gambhir engaged in a violent altercation until their teammates intervened.

The incident began in the fourth over of Lucknow's chase, when Glenn Maxwell attacked stand-in captain Krunal Pandya. Maxwell bowled it wide and slowed it down as Krunal charged out to hit the huge one over long off, but Kohli was there to take the catch and dismiss the batsman for 14 off 11.

How did Kohli commemorate the second wicket for RCB? He blew a flying kiss to the audience, patted his chest, and then reenacted Gambhir's jubilation with a twist. He signaled the audience not to remain quiet and to continue cheering by placing his finger on his lips. The celebration differed slightly from that of the LSG coach, who had signaled the Chinnaswamy crowd to remain silent with the same 'finger on the lips' gesture.

Despite a modest total of 126 for nine on a slightly difficult batting surface, RCB was able to defend it, keeping LSG 18 runs short. Naveen-ul-Haq and the spin twins Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra were the best bowlers for LSG, while Kohli (31) and Faf du Plessis (44) were the highest scorers for RCB. In response, the visitors struck early with the new ball, dismissing four LSG batsmen in the powerplay for just 27 runs before the rest of the lineup collapsed in a flash. Injured KL Rahul entered the game at No.11, but was unable to contribute to the team's success because of a hamstring injury.

After the contest, a furious Gambhir had an aggressive handshake with Kohli, and when Kyle Mayers approached the former RCB captain to speak with him, Gambhir pulled him away. The LSG coach then barked at Kohli, sparking an acrimonious exchange between the RCB star and the LSG coach. From the video footage that has gone viral, it appears that Gambhir attempted to charge Kohli while LSG players, including captain KL Rahul, repeatedly attempted to halt him.

Rahul did manage to keep Gambhir away but taking him aside, but not for long. In the presence of both team members, Gambhir and Kohli engaged in a violent altercation.

In the end, it was Kohli's India counterpart Rahul who calmed him down after a lengthy conversation about the Gambhir incident, which was preceded by an altercation between Kohli, Naveen, and Amit Mishra during the game.
