Jay Shah met Rahul Dravid in West Indies
The meeting took place after the third T20I against West Indies on Tuesday, August 08 as India trailed by 1-2 in the five-match series.
Following a blockbuster performance in the limited-overs series against West Indies, India's preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023 appear to be disorganised. The batting order, with the exception of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill, appears entirely unstable, as was evident in the first ODI when the team struggled to chase down 115 runs, with Kohli and Rohit dropping down the order.
BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Secretary Jay Shah met with Indian head coach Rahul Dravid in Miami amidst mounting concerns regarding India's preparations for the marquee events. The meeting took place on Tuesday, August 8, following the third Twenty20 International against West Indies, with India trailing 1-2 in the five-match series.
The meeting lasted nearly two hours and was conducted at the hotel where Shah was staying, according to a report in Cricbuzz. While the specifics of their conversation remain unknown, it is speculated that the route map to the 2023 World Cup was discussed. The BCCI secretary has expressed a strong desire to win the upcoming World Cup, which begins in India on October 5.
Following India's recent T20I series loss to West Indies, Dravid has received a great deal of criticism, with some questioning his leadership and others suggesting the hiring of a new T20I coach.
In the meantime, the Indian team will begin its Asia Cup 2023 training exercise in Alur, Bengaluru, on August 24. However, the selection committee has not yet been informed of when the continental cup squad will be finalised. The report suggests that selection could occur after India's first Twenty20 International against Ireland on August 18, when Jasprit Bumrah will make his return to international cricket after an absence of 11 months.
Selectors waiting for update on fitness of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are undertaking rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, but the selectors have not received any official communication regarding their fitness. Rishabh Pant recently shared a video of Iyer and Rahul batting together in a warm-up game, spotting the tandem during their participation. The NCA managers will presumably provide the BCCI with an update on both players prior to the selection committee meeting.
