Yuzvendra Chahal opens up after World Cup omission

Yuzvendra Chahal's inclusion in India's squad for the impending ODI World Cup was in the works for a considerable amount of time. However, the team management preferred Axar Patel over him in the recently concluded Asia Cup, and after the left-arm spinner was ruled out of the mega-tournament due to injury, the think tank decided to bring in Ravichandran Ashwin, leaving Chahal out of the running.

Chahal stated, in reference to his regrettable omission, that he is now accustomed to such occurrences, as they have occurred to him in the past. The 33-year-old added that he is regretful following his omission but understands that the team can only select 15 players for the tournament.

Chahal told Wisden India earlier this week, "I understand that there can only be fifteen players because it is the World Cup and you cannot take 17 or 18." "I do feel somewhat terrible, but my life philosophy is to move on. "I'm used to it now... it's been three World Cups," Chahal was quoted by Wisden as saying.

I traveled to Kent because I want to play cricket somewhere: Chahal

To maintain his fitness and availability, Yuzvendra Chahal signed with Kent to play three matches in the current County Championship. The spinner stated that he desired to play cricket somewhere, somehow, and thus decided to play for Kent. He also wishes to play red-ball cricket for India in the future.

"I come to Kent to play because I want to play cricket somewhere, someway. I'm getting an opportunity to play red ball cricket for India, and I'm eager to do so. Thus, I had a positive experience. I've also spoken with the instructors, and they're pleased that I'm playing somewhere, as you can practice as much as you want in the nets, but a match is a match. I'm playing at a very high level here – first division, County – and I'm learning a great deal," he added.
