World Cup 2023: Why Ind vs Pak match can be rescheduled?

The eagerly anticipated mega-match between India and Pakistan is likely to be rescheduled for the upcoming World Cup, which is scheduled to commence on October 5. Notably, the archrivals are scheduled to face off on October 15, but it is also the start of Navratri, that is widely celebrated in Gujarat. Therefore, the security forces have already informed BCCI and ICC of a potential date change.

Meanwhile, a date change would be a nightmare for tens of thousands of fans who have already scheduled travel and lodging for that period. As a result, the authorities will need to approach the situation with caution, as it could result in significant retaliation. Notably, tickets are not yet on sale; therefore, the board has the right to alter the venue, particularly if the security agency has asked them to modify the schedule.

New Chic

In the meantime, in an interview with The Indian Express, a senior BCCI official verified the new development and stated that a decision will be forthcoming.

We are currently considering our options, and a decision will be made shortly. We've been told by the security agencies that a high-profile match like India vs. Pakistan, for which thousands of travelling fans are due to arrive in Ahmedabad, should be avoided because of Navratri," a BCCI official who did not wish to be identified said.

However, it is extremely improbable that the board will change the match's location. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has previously voiced its concerns about playing India in Ahmedabad, and will therefore dispatch a team to inspect the venue in August or September. Following this, they are liable to take a participation-related call. It is widely believed, however, that they will not raise objections now that the Asia Cup dilemma has been resolved.

Roger Binny, president of the BCCI, will shortly visit Narendra Modi Stadium to inspect the venue. In addition, the former cricketer will supervise the development of Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.
