Why Jofra Archer was not included in England’s provisional squad for ODI World Cup 2023 ?

Jofra Archer did not make the England selection for the upcoming series against New Zealand and is not included in the provisional squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Notably, he sustained an unfortunate elbow injury during the 16th season of the Indian Premier League, and he subsequently returned home early to concentrate on the Ashes.

However, Archer was unable to recover in time and missed the series; he is also in danger of missing the World Cup, which is scheduled to commence on October 5 in India.

Luke Wright, England's chief selector, has confirmed that the player has made significant progress and may compete in the second half of the tournament. As a reserve, he will travel with the team, and his progress will be closely monitored to affirm his return. Wright added that the team management is eager to have him in the squad from the beginning, but that time is running out for that to occur.

"There must be a duty of responsibility towards Jof. There's no question that we're all anxious for him, but we must also do what's best for him. Regarding the World Cup, we're running out of time due to his string of unfortunate injuries.

"He will not recover quickly enough, particularly for the beginning of the World Cup. He has a duty of responsibility towards you. We must ensure long-term success, as we view him as a tremendous asset for the foreseeable future. "As tempting as it is to try to rush him in and get him in for the start of this World Cup, we will simply run out of time," Wright was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

In his absence, England have included Gus Atkinson, who is currently in outstanding form. The 25-year-old lacks sufficient List A cricket experience, but the team management is anticipated to support him given his current form.
