Tim Southee provides big update on his injury ahead of World Cup Opening encounter
The 34-year-old stated that he is not yet a hundred percent fit as he still has some tender but expects to recover just in time ahead of opening match.
Tim Southee dislocated his thumb and was in danger of missing the impending ODI World Cup. However, the cricketer has made significant strides since then and has recently begun bowling in the nets in preparation for the major tournament. The 34-year-old clarified that he is not yet 100 percent fit as he still has some tenderness, but he expects to recover just in time for the October 5 tournament.
Notably, Southee arrived in Ahmedabad on October 3 and stated that he has had a hectic couple of weeks due to his injury. He stated that he was racing against time, but he recovered in time to travel to India. Interestingly, the cricketer from Northland stated that he is adjusting to bowling with pain by managing his thumb.
"It's still a little tender around the plate, where there is certainly some scarring and numbness. So I suppose it's just a matter of growing used to it. And returning to the sport of bowling. Haven't done a lot of bowling over the last couple of weeks, so it's about bringing your loads back up as well as managing the thumb.
"It's been a couple of hectic weeks. It was a race against time to get here, but we made it, and it's a wonderful site to visit. Southee was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying, "It's an incredible place to play cricket, even if it weren't the World Cup."
Never gone through such injury earlier: Southee
Southee Southee stated that he had never dealt with a similar injury during his tenure. He added that these types of injuries frequently distract players prior to the World Cup. However, he was intent on devising a quick recovery plan so that he could return to cricket as soon as feasible.
"Injury was a novelty. Haven't done an injury like this before. I suppose that when something similar occurs so near to a global event, your thoughts begin to drift in that direction. With the limited time we had, I believe that sitting down and calculating the quickest recovery time, and the way back, was to throw some screws and a plate in it and pray for the best. Everyone I've interacted with and the process leading up to this point have been outstanding. Southee added, "Let's hope we can continue the recovery process and arrive on time."
