Why Rishabh Pant can miss next year IPL ?
Ishant Sharma feels that the left-handed batter still needs to recover more and may miss the next year's IPL as well.
Rishabh Pant is recuperating from injuries he sustained in a car accident last December. Pant has begun batting and keeping in the nets following a significant operation in May 2023. According to the most recent BCCI medical report, he is currently following an appropriate fitness routine.
Pant, 25, is expected to miss the 2023 ODI World Cup after missing the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. When queried about Pant's return, veteran Indian pacer Ishant Sharma believes that the left-handed batsman still needs to recover and may miss the IPL next season as well.
The positive aspect is that Rishabh Pant did not require a second operation: Ishant Sharma
"I believe we may not see Rishabh Pant in the next IPL, as his injury is not minor. It was a catastrophic catastrophe. Ishant stated on Jio Cinema, "He has just begun batting and wicketkeeping, and to run and turn after that is difficult for both a wicketkeeper and a batter."
"The positive news is that he did not require a second operation. If he had undergone a second operation, he would have been out for an even extended period of time. He has undergone one surgery, but I doubt he will be healthy for the World Cup. If he recovers in time for the IPL, it will be fantastic," he added.
Pant's rehabilitation is significant for both the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Men in Blue. In his absence during IPL 2023, David Warner commanded the team, which ultimately finished in second-to-last place. However, on the Indian side, Pant's position has been largely filled by Ishan Kishan in limited-overs cricket, but the issue of replacing him in Test cricket persists.
Indian management is looking ahead with Kishan in all formats, particularly after the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 loss, as KS Bharat was dismissed and not selected for either of the West Indies (WI) Tests.
