Virat Kohli doubtful for 3rd ODI against West Indies

Virat Kohli is likely to be spared for the third and final ODI between India and the West Indies. It is believed that the former India captain did not travel with the team to Trinidad for the series deciding match and will likely serve on the substitute.

According to reports, there has been no official conformation as to whether or not Kohli will make the XI, given that he did not travel with the team. After a comfortable victory in the first ODI, the think tank decided to bench senior cricketers Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma for the second ODI.

However, the strategy appeared to falter as the Men in Blue suffered a humiliating loss in the second one-day international. In doing so, the West Indies drew parity in the three-match ODI series.

It is noteworthy that the Windies defeated the Men in Blue for the first time in an ODI since 2019 and after nine consecutive losses. Notably, India was bowled out for only 181 runs in the second one-day international in Bridgetown, Barbados. While Ishan Kishan scored 55 runs, Shubman Gill scored 34 runs off 49 deliveries, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute with crucial knocks.

During the chase, captain Shai Hope played an unbeaten innings of 63 off 80 deliveries that included two fours and as many sixes to help his team level the three-match series with India. Samson was unable to make an impact in the second ODI where he had the opportunity.

Team India could field Samson in the third and final One-Day International and recall Rohit Sharma as captain. On Tuesday, August 1, the two teams will face off at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Team India will attempt to mount a resounding revival in the final match before moving on to the five T20Is.
