Shakib Al Hasan confirmed as Bangladesh caption for Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023
Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hassan confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan will team for both Asia Cup and World Cup 2023 events.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan will captain the national team at the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. On Saturday, August 12, the selection committee will choose a 17-member squad for both 50-over competitions.
President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Hassan has confirmed that Shakib will head the setup for both events, and he has stated that the squads will be announced on August 12.
Shakib has been named captain for the Asia Cup and World Cup. Tomorrow, the World Cup and Asia Cup squads will be announced. The selectors will choose a roster of 17 players," Nazmul told reporters on August 11 at his home.
As Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were the other two candidates, the supreme board convened an emergency meeting to choose a name for both ODI events. This occurred after the ODI captaincy position had been vacant since August 3, when Tamim Iqbal resigned after withdrawing from the ACC tournament due to a back ailment.
Tamim, who declared a shocking retirement last month, reversed his decision after meeting with Bangladesh's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, as is noteworthy. As he recovers from his injury, Tamim expects to be able to participate in the prestigious ICC tournament scheduled to take place in India in October.
Shakib, the current captain of the Test and T20 International teams, has also led the Bangla Tigers in the One-Day format, including the 2011 ODI World Cup. Regarding their Asia Cup campaign, Bangladesh is assigned in Group B alongside Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
Bangladesh, led by Shakib, will play their first match against co-hosts Sri Lanka at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, August 31. On October 7, the team will face Afghanistan in their first ODI World Cup match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala.
