Reports: India in search of new T20I captain for Ireland series

It has been said that everything will depend on how Pandya is feeling after the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies.

Reports: India in search of new T20I captain for Ireland series

On August 18, the Indian team will begin a three-match T20I series against Ireland. India is anticipated to field a second-string team for the series in Ireland.

Previously, it was anticipated that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya would head the team for the three-match series. Recent reports indicate, however, that Pandya could be rested, with his workload being the primary reason. The management of Pandya's burden could be crucial for the Indian team, as he could be a key member of the upcoming World Cup and Asia Cup 2023 squads.

A knowledgeable BCCI source stated that nothing has been finalised and that everything will hinge on Pandya's condition following the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies.

"Nothing has been decided, and it will hinge on how Hardik feels after the one-day and Twenty20 matches in the West Indies. There is travel involved, and the transition time before flying from Florida to Dublin is only three days. Given the significance of the World Cup, one must consider his workload. "Let's not forget that he'll be Rohit's deputy in the World Cup," a BCCI source told Times Now.

With India's upcoming ODI and T20I series against the West Indies and the Asia Cup on the horizon, several players will not receive sufficient recuperation if they travel to Ireland. Clearly, the BCCI places the utmost significance on players receiving adequate rest and remaining fit for major competitions.

In addition, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not participate in the T20I series against the West Indies. Both players have not played in a T20I since the 2022 World Cup, and their wait will become even lengthier as they prepare for the ODI matches.
