IND-W vs SL-W Highlights: IND-W Beat SL-W To Clinch Gold Medal At Asian Games 2023

India Women successfully defended 116 to defeat Sri Lanka Women by 19 runs and claim cricket's first-ever gold medal. Oshadi Ranasinghe kept Sri Lanka alive for the longest period during the chase, but her dismissal left Sri Lanka with an insurmountable total of 97.8. Titas Sadhu orchestrated a fantasy start with the ball for India women, taking three wickets in the first two overs and finishing with astounding figures of 3/6 from four overs.

At 14/3, a 36-run partnership between Hasini Perera and Nilakshi de Silva boosted Sri Lanka's women. The dismissal of Perera by Rajeshwari Gayakwad provided India with a much-needed breakthrough, but the mission had already been accomplished. India then tightened its grip in the final five overs, maintaining its composure to claim its first-ever cricket gold medal.

This occurred after India Women suffered another batting collapse and posted 116/7 against Sri Lanka Women in the gold medal match of cricket. From 89/1, the team lost six wickets in the final five overs for just 27 runs.

Despite the fact that the pitch was not ideal for hitting, IND W should have aimed for a higher total. This pitch was difficult for batting, but Smriti Mandhana and Jemima Rodrigues fought valiantly against the Sri Lankan spinners. They formed a solid half-century partnership, contributing 73 runs for the second wicket.

Following the dismissal of IND W captain Harmanpreet Kaur, both Shafali Varma and Mandhana hit early boundaries. However, Shafali was shortly defeated. Mandhana fell just four runs short of her fifty as Sri Lanka quickly dismissed her and Richa Ghosh following a promising partnership. From that point on, the wickets of Harmanpreet, Pooja Vastrakar, Rodrigues, and Amanjot Kaur fell precipitously for the India women.
