Chennai Super Kings (CSK) blasted 226/6 in a whirlwind innings while batting first, and while it appeared that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would struggle in the pursuit at first, RCB eventually surpassed CSK's total. The phenomenal third-wicket partnership between captain Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell has now placed the total well within reach for the hosts.
The duo smashed the ball to all corners of the field until Maxwell was out on 76 after 36 deliveries. Together, he and Du Plessis scored an astonishing 126 runs in only 61 deliveries. Previously, CSK lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early, but Ajinkya Rahane sparked their powerplay. After Rahane was defeated by Wanindu Hasaranga, Devon Conway joined the group and continued the offensive.
The destruction continued, however, as Shivam Dube came in and scored 80 runs off 37 deliveries for the third wicket. After Conway scored 83 off 45, Dube continued the assault. The Indian scored 52 runs off of 27 deliveries before being defeated by Wayne Parnell. Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, and Ravindra Jadeja all blasted massive shots, enabling CSK to score 226/6.
