After a lackluster start to the season, Mumbai Indians (MI) secured back-to-back victories with a five-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit Sharma, who entered as an Impact Substitute in pursuit of 186, gave Mumbai a solid start alongside Ishan Kishan, who was the more aggressive of the two. Together, they added 65 before Suyash Sharma dismissed Rohit for 20(13).
Ishan succumbed shortly after being bowled by a yorker from Varun Chakravarthy for 58(25). Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma added 60 runs for the third wicket, which shifted the momentum in Mumbai's favor and kept the team moving forward. Tim David smashed 24 runs off 13 balls without being dismissed as Mumbai completed the run chase with 2.2 overs remaining. Previously, Venkatesh Iyer scored his first IPL century before being dismissed for 104 off 51 deliveries.
He walked to the crease after KKR had lost Jagadeesan for 0 runs. However, he maintained an offensive mindset and completed his fifty in 23 balls before reaching the century mark in 49 balls. However, KKR labored in the final overs and could only score 45 runs in the last five overs.
