Match 22 of the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League features Mumbai Indians versus Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav, captain of the Mumbai Indians, won the toss and invited KKR to bat first. The Nitish Rana-led team's innings has gotten off to a strong start thanks to Venkatesh Iyer's brilliant fifty.
Nitish Rana and Hrithik Shokeen were embroiled in a scuffle during the ninth over of the opposition's innings, indicating that the scorching heat in Mumbai was affecting the players. The KKR captain was returning to the dugout after being run out by the first delivery of the over at long on.
As Rana was departing the field, Shokeen appeared to give him a send-off by saying something that angered the KKR captain, who responded angrily and was about to charge the bowler before Suryakumar intervened.
As the MI commander observed the situation escalating, he intervened and separated the two players. Later, Rana was spotted returning to the pavilion while yelling fiercely at Shokeen.
Returning to the match, Cameron Green dismissed N Jagadeesan in the second over of the innings for the Mumbai Indians. Venkatesh Iyer, however, led the charge for Kolkata and displayed his majestic stroke play by smashing MI's bowlers all over the field.
The second success for Mumbai occurred in the sixth over when Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed by Piyush Chawla. While wickets continued to fall at the other end, Iyer continued to attack from his end and reached fifty off just 23 deliveries.
Following Rana's dismissal, Shardul Thakur remained with Iyer, and the pair added 50 runs off 28 deliveries for the fourth wicket. Shardul Thakur was eliminated in the thirteenth over, when Shokeen took his second wicket of the innings.
