Litton Das ruled out of Asia Cup 2023, replacement announced

Litton Das' exclusion from the Asia Cup 2023 has dealt Bangladesh a massive setback, as he has been ruled out of the tournament. Notably, Litton was unable to recuperate from viral fever and did not travel to Sri Lanka with the team for the ACC competition.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) selection committee notified Litton's replacement after confirming his exclusion from the team. As his substitution, wicketkeeper-batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy is expected to travel to the island nation later on Wednesday, August 30.

The Chairman of the National Selection Panel, Minhajul Abedin, commented on the like-for-like replacement, stating that Anamul was always in the running to make the team.

"He (Anamul Haque Bijoy) has been performing well in domestic cricket, and we have continued to track him as part of the Bangladesh Tigers program. He was constantly in our minds. "Because Litton (Das) was unavailable, we needed a top-order batsman who could also keep wicket, and Anamul was chosen," said Minhajul Abedin, as quoted by the ICC.

In 44 ODIs, Anamul has amassed 1254 runs, including five fifties and three centuries for an average of 30.58. However, he made his final appearance in 2022 against India in the third ODI, scoring an embarrassing eight runs off seven deliveries.

Earlier, it was verified that pacer Ebadot Hossain would miss the ACC event due to a knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan in July. As a result, the think tank decided to back uncapped 20-year-old pacer Tanzim Hasan as Ebadot's replacement, as the latter is recuperating in order to be ready for the October 2023 ODI World Cup.

On Thursday, August 31, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, the Bangla Tigers open their Asia Cup campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka.
