IPL 2023 Playoffs Scenario: How RCB,KKR,RR May Qualify With Punjab Almost Out?

IPL 2023 Playoffs Scenario: In the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Punjab Kings, captained by Shikhar Dhawan, suffered a devastating setback in their quest for the playoffs. The team lost by 15 runs to Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala on Wednesday, bringing their total to 12 points from 13 matches. Dhawan and co. are still in contention with one match remaining, but their prospects of advancing to the next round appear very slim.

On Friday, Punjab's next scheduled match will be against Rajasthan Royals. A loss will end the campaign of one side, while a victory will give the other a slim chance, particularly if it is Punjab.

Looking at the table of points, Punjab have 12 points and a negative net run rate (NRR) of -0.308. Rajasthan has a positive NRR of +0.140 despite having the same number of points and playing the same number of matches.

Therefore, a victory may not be enough for Punjab to advance, as they will require a decisive victory at the majestic Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

However, both Rajasthan and Punjab rely significantly on others, particularly Sunrisers Hyderabad, to assist them. On Thursday, the tenth-ranked Hyderabad franchise will host the Royal Challengers Bangalore. A victory for Hyderabad will maintain RCB on 12 points after 13 matches, while a victory will bring them to 14 points with one game remaining. Additionally, RCB have a positive NRR of +0.166.

However, both Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals will be eliminated if Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and RCB win their remaining matches. Both CSK and LSG have 15 points, and CSK will face the Capitals in their final league match. In contrast, Lucknow will travel to Kolkata for their final league match.
