Breaking his silence following Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) unceremonious departure from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, former India captain Virat Kohli lamented Faf du Plessis and co.'s subpar season performance in the 16th edition of the cash-rich league. The Kohli-led team failed to reach the final stages of the prestigious tournament despite entering as one of the top contenders for the championship. RCB have gone 16 seasons without winning the IPL.
On Sunday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) outplayed Bangalore in the final league encounter of the IPL 2023. After RCB was eliminated from the IPL, Kohli took to Twitter to convey his gratitude to the Bangalore fans for their unwavering support throughout the season. "A season that had its moments, but we fell short of our objective. We are disappointed, but we must keep our heads up. "To our loyal supporters, thank you for supporting us every step of the way," Kohli tweeted.
In their final league encounter of the season, the Bangalore giants were tasked with defeating the defending champions Gujarat Titans. In IPL 2023 match number 70, former RCB captain Kohli played a magnificent innings against Pandya and co. The legendary batsman blasted a magnificent century to help Bangalore post a formidable 197-5 in 20 overs.

In the high-scoring contest, Shubman Gill-led GT defeated RCB by six wickets despite Kohli's record-setting innings. The IPL 2023 playoff aspirations of RCB were dashed by Gill's unbeaten 104-ball knock off 52 balls, which destroyed RCB's chances of making the playoffs.
RCB's devastating loss also confirmed Mumbai Indians' (MI) qualification for the current season's playoffs. Rohit Sharma and the Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their final league game to secure the season's fourth and final playoff berth. In 14 encounters, run-machine Kohli, who broke multiple IPL 2023 records, amassed 639 runs. In the 16th season of the lucrative division, the 34-year-old scored two centuries and six half-centuries while averaging 53.25.
