‘CSK don’t want to see MI in IPL final': Gayle says momentum with Rohit's team

Former RCB opening batsman Chris Gayle commented on the upcoming match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the second qualifier at Ahmedabad, noting that playing in the Titans' hometown could provide a substantial advantage to GT. The West Indies legend also acknowledged Mumbai Indians' current momentum and indicated that if they reach the final, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would face a formidable challenge that's why CSK don’t want to see MI in IPL final.

"Their visit to GT's homeland will be a huge advantage for them. This is something that must be taken into account. Now, however, the momentum is with Mumbai. Will Mumbai reach the championship match? If they do, CSK does not want to see Mumbai," Gayle said on Jio Cinema.

The winner of the second qualifier in Ahmedabad between MI and defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final.

GT led the standings after the league stage with ten wins from fourteen games, but fell to CSK at Chepauk in the first qualifier. MI, on the other hand, finished fourth and advanced to the Eliminator by defeating SRH in their final league game and then thrashing LSG by 81 runs to move closer to the final.

This season, the batters have been the stars for MI and have helped the team win despite poor performances from the bowling unit. However, in the Eliminator, the bowlers eventually showed up and dominated the LSG batters to lead them to a confidence-boosting victory.

Cameron Green (41 off 23) and Surya Kumar Yadav (33 off 20) led the way for MI, who batted first after winning the toss and compiled a formidable 182/8. LSG were bowled out for 101 in 16.3 overs as MI pacer Akash Madhwal produced remarkable figures of 5/5 from 3.3 overs.

The Wolverines have won their last two games and four of their last five. After winning the Eliminator, MI became the team with the most wins in the IPL semifinals, with 13 victories out of 19. Additionally, MI have won two of the three IPL contests they have played against GT.

After the victory over LSG, Gayle also praised Cameron Green's outstanding batting performance, recognizing his crucial role in establishing the momentum for Mumbai Indians' innings.

Cameron Green batted magnificently. It was incredible how deliberate he was at first. On this wicket, the ball was genuinely making contact with the bat. Cam Green in fact established the tone and impetus for the Mumbai Indians' batting."

MI hopes to defeat GT and CSK in Ahmedabad to win a record-setting sixth IPL title, while GT hopes to defeat MI and CSK in front of their home supporters to win their second consecutive IPL title.
